Heat Sealing, Pillow Packaging Machines, and Laminate Tube Machines

Pasty food, toothpaste, skincare cream, ointment, shampoo, conditioners, etc., are packed in tubes.  Potato chips, snacks, cookies, candies, coffee, tea, frozen foods, health foods, retort pouch food are packed in laminated plastic bags.  They are everywhere in our life.

These tube and bag packaging is done automatically by heat sealing machines.  They produce about 100 to 200 tubes and bags every minute. Tubes and bags are laminated plastics with each layer having specific feature like preventing oxidation or incoming of moisture so that original quality of substance inside is kept for days.

In most cases packaging machines employ stainless steel belts for making tubes and sealing bags. DYMCO is one of those heat sealing metal belt suppliers.

Tooth paste tube, for instance, starts with a flat and long laminated plastic sheet. In a certain length this sheet is rolled and both edges meet.  Then both edges are pressed and heated by 2 stainless steel belts, one from the outer surface and the other from the inner surface of a tube.  This way a tube is made and cut down at defined length of one tooth paste tube.

As you can imagine, there are many packaging machine makers in the world. Machine users choose the best machines.

But the point is that machines are not almighty.  Why? Heat sealing is combination of 3 elements: pressure, heat, and time pressing and heating are applied.   But laminated plastic sheets are different for each product.  One set of combination is good for one sheet, but may not for others, because properties of each sheet is different and effects of the same heating and pressing come out differently.

What about stainless steel belts then? There are choices in steel grades and belt surfaces coatings.

One steel grade keeps much heat in itself and the other releases heat quickly. These different characters are both employed for different plastics. Coating is added when non-adhesive and anti-abrasion features are required for belts.  DYMCO provides Fluororesin coatings so that melted plastics by heat come off from belts easily.  Coatings vary in hardness, thickness, degrees of non-adhesiveness and abrasion resistance, and chemicals of Polyimide or Polyamide-imide base.

To sum up then, laminated plastics sheets variations, 3 mechanical conditions, stainless steel grades, and belt coatings, all these variable factors influence joint of tubes and bags.  There is a margin of improvement even for conventional operating conditions and new plastic material demands try and error.

For your trial DYMCO provides heat sealing belts with required size, steel grades, and coatings.  If you have a problem in your heat sealing, changing belts can be a choice.
